Update – Vehicle Crash Involving Henrico Officers: (Henrico County, Va.) – Henrico County Police mourns the loss of one of our own after a tragic 3-vehicle crash along Rt. 301 Wednesday evening. Today, officers are shrouding their badges to honor the officer who passed away while colleagues and family supported one another at a local hospital. Officer Trey Marshall Sutton, 24, of Chesterfield County was hired in June 2021 and most recently graduated the basic police academy in February 2022. Officer Sutton was currently assigned to the Patrol Bureau, where he was in field training, with his partner. Two adults remain hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation. The second officer and the male they were transporting remain in the hospital, in critical condition with potentially life-threatening injuries. “This is a tragedy for everyone, and my thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved. God bless Officer Sutton for his chosen profession - law enforcement and commitment to Henrico County. Sutton was a well-respected member of his recent academy class,” says Chief of Police Eric D. English. --- Initial Release: At roughly 8:30 pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, a crash occurred at the intersection of Route 301 (Chamberlayne Road) and Wilkinson Road involving three vehicles; one of those vehicles was a marked Henrico Police vehicle. First responders rushed four people to area hospitals, three of which sustained life-threatening injuries. One adult has been treated and released. Those critically injured were in the police cruiser, two officers, and a male, which they were transporting in custody. The preliminary investigation indicates that a Dodge pickup truck was traveling south on 301. The Henrico Police vehicle was crossing through the intersection, traveling west on Wilkinson Road, when the collision occurred. As a result of the crash, a third vehicle was struck along Wilkinson Road. The crash team will continue their investigation into this incident, and updates of the officers condition and status of the investigation will be sent as they become available.
