The Virginia Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (VACLEA) and the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police (VACP) have created a fundraising campaign on Fundthefirst.com to support the families of Bridgewater College Campus Police Officer John Painter and Campus Safety Officer J.J. Jefferson who were killed in the line of duty on February 1, 2022.
Because Bridgewater College is a private institution, Officer Painter and CSO Jefferson do not qualify for Line of Duty Death benefits from from the state like other police officers do. However, their duty and sacrifice are no different than their municipal and state counterparts. They are heroes who intervened and prevented a greater tragedy on that campus.
